Wages of Foreign Domestic Helper

According to the Hong Kong SAR government regulations, the minimum wage for foreign domestic helpers in 2024 is HKD 4,870. If the employer does not provide free meals, they can choose to provide a meal allowance, with a minimum amount of HKD 1,236 per month. Employers can determine the wage level based on factors such as the helper's work experience, workload, working hours, and job performance. If the helper has to do heavy work, such as taking care of disabled persons, newborns, and elderly, the employer may consider paying a higher salary.
When employers and helpers sign a contract, it is not necessary to set the wage higher than the minimum wage. It is common to set the wage at the minimum wage. In addition, employers can negotiate with the helper to reach an agreement. For example, they can promise to provide a salary increase or bonus mechanism based on good performance, to protect their own interests and encourage the helper to perform better.
