Sick Leave

Sick Leave for Foreign Domestic Helpers

Foreign domestic helpers are entitled to paid sick leave in addition to their normal annual leave. In the first year of employment, they can enjoy two days of paid sick leave per month, which increases to four days per month afterwards. These sick leave days can accumulate, but cannot exceed 120 days. As long as the domestic helper can provide a medical certificate issued by a registered doctor, they can enjoy paid sick leave. When a domestic helper takes paid sick leave, their salary should be four-fifths of their average daily salary.

As an employer, you are responsible for paying your domestic helper's medical fees. You can take her to see any doctor, including government doctors, and with her Hong Kong ID card, she will be charged the same price as Hong Kong residents. Remember to keep the receipts and claim the insurance. You should have purchased insurance when hiring your helper, and the insurance can help cover the medical expenses.

You can make an appointment for a General Outpatient Clinic (GOPC) of the Hospital Authority (HA) by phone or app. The fee for a GOPC consultation is HKD 50, and you can find the details of other charges on this website.
